Banks will waive same-bank cross-region ATM cash withdrawal fees from Tuesday to Jan 3. Predee Daochai, chairman of the Thai Bankers' Association, said on Monday the move by the 15 member banks aimed to facilitate people travelling to Bangkok to pay respects to King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the capital. The withdrawal fees are already free for an account and an ATM of the same bank in the same clearing region but banks normally charge up to 15 baht per transaction if the card is used with an ATM in another clearing zone even though the ATM belongs to the issuing bank. "The bank will also make sure sufficient cash is available at the ATMs near the Grand Palace and the vicinities at all times during the period, he said.
